With the Covid-19 vaccine being widely distributed globally, many are gearing up to embrace a new season involving outside activities. The pandemic is still heavily present, and there are still stay-at-home orders and bans on large public gatherings in different parts of the world, but we can expect that in near times, we will be able to move back into normality. Canada specifically is already beginning to open up and promote springtime activities. Let’s take a look at some of the best activities you and your family can participate in during this springtime in Canada.
Vancouver Cherry Blossoms
For those of you who are plant and flower lovers, this activity is going to blow you away. From May-June, after Vancouver’s rainy season, the city starts to bloom with cherry blossoms. There is said to be about 40,000 cherry blossom trees that line the city as the dry season moves in. The trees change right before summer, so this activity is something you want to get out and see as soon as you can, or you will miss it. The best places to see these blossoms are in VanDusen Botanical Garden, Queen Elizabeth Park, and Stanley Park. Vancouver also hosts many different Cherry Blossom Festivals during this season, such as Sakura Days Japan Fair, Cherry Jam Downtown, and Bike the Blossoms.
Whale Spotting
Animal fans will love this activity, as April to September is the peak season for whale spotting in Canada. There are many locations spanning all around the country where you can get a close-up view of these beautiful blue sea creatures. There are up to 13 species of whales that you can see in the different areas of Canada’s active waters. British Columbia is known for Gray, Minke, Orca, and Humpback whales. Manitoba is known for Beluga whales. Nova Scotia is known for Minke, Humpback, and Finback whales. Quebec is home to Minke, Beluga, Sperm, and Finback whales. Tours are available and popular for most of the coastal towns the whales reside in.
